CALENDAR & SESSION LENGTH
Our lesson and ensemble programs meet weekly throughout the school year (September 1 - June 30) however we are closed for December, February, and April school vacation weeks.
Please note that although our programs meet weekly, our tuition is structured in a month-to-month basis. Certain lessons will meet more during some months than others, so we have based our costs to reflect these fluctuations in order to average out the payments across the entire school year.
For the 2019/2020 school year our lessons, ensembles, and MAMMOTH programs begin Tuesday, September 3, 2019 and run through the school year, ending on Friday, June 19, 2020.
Programs end on Tuesday, June 16 followed by recitals and performances on Wednesday, June 17 through Friday, June 19.
Please see below for our exceptions to the Portland Public School calendar dates:
CLOSED: Thursday, Oct. 31: Halloween
OPEN: Monday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day
CLOSED: Tuesday, Nov 26: Tuesday before Thanksgiving (a travel day for many families)
OPEN: Monday, Jan. 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
OPEN: Monday, May 25: Memorial Day
STUDENT ABSENCE OR CANCELLATION - PRIVATE LESSONS
We offer TWO rescheduled/make-up lessons per school year (Sept-June) for individual lessons.
Advance notice of an upcoming conflict to the instructor or registrar is appreciated whenever possible.
In the event of a last-minute absence or emergency, please communicate directly with the instructor as soon as possible. Cell phone numbers for instructors are provided with confirmation details from the Registrar so that you can text or call.
Instructors AND families will work together to reschedule make-up lessons.
If the family does not accept make-up dates provided by instructor within two months of a missed lesson, the make-up lesson is forfeited.
STUDENT ABSENCES - ENSEMBLES
There are NO individual student makeups given for students enrolled in group or ensemble classes.
If the teacher deems that too many students are absent in order to hold a particular ensemble's rehearsal, it is at the discretion of that teacher as to whether the session will be rescheduled or cancelled.
TEACHER ABSENCES
Make-ups will always be offered for ALL teacher absences for private lessons and ensembles.
STORM CLOSURES
By rule of thumb, MAMM follows the Portland Public Schools calendar and storm closures. However, we do reserve the right to cancel or hold programming based on the timing of our programs and the distribution of our families throughout the State.
We announce cancellations on television channels 6, 8, and 13, and on the Facebook page (facebook.com/MAMMrocks) as well as our parent portal.
Storm closure make-ups are limited to ONE per academic year (September-June).
PAYMENT
Payment is due in full on the 1st of each month.
We ask for all payments to be made online. NO CASH OR CHECK PAYMENTS PLEASE!
Please note that our online system allows for families to set up recurring monthly payments for your convenience!
REGISTRATION FEE
A $50 Membership Fee per family is required to register for MAMM programs. Please note that there is only one charge per family per academic year. Example: if a student is enrolled in ensembles AND lessons with MAMM, the family is still only charged $50. Likewise, if a family has more than one sibling enrolled at MAMM, the charge is still only $50.
BILLING
Please note that although our programs meet weekly, tuition is paid monthly with families paying a consistent amount each month. Certain lessons will meet more during some months than others, so we have calculated tuition costs to reflect these fluctuations in order to average out the payments across the entire school year.
DISCOUNTS & SCHOLARSHIPS
There is a discount for any student enrolled in multiple MAMM programs (for example, a student enrolled in private lessons and an ensemble), and for multiple siblings enrolled in MAMM programs (for example, two siblings enrolled in private lessons).
We strive to make music instruction financially accessible to any deserving student. Need-based scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Qualifying families will receive up to half the cost of tuition in scholarship. Please contact us for more information.
LATE FEES
Accounts with outstanding balances of over 15 working days will be charged a late payment fee of $25.
An additional $50 will be charged for each additional month of unpaid tuition.
The Maine Academy of Modern Music reserves the right to stop a student's instructional activities at any time if there is an unpaid account balance of more than 15 working days.
Jurisdiction for the collection of delinquent funds will be in Cumberland County, Maine. MAMM is entitled to recover all costs and fees incurred in the collection of judgment plus 1.5% per month fee for all late payments.
