ATTENDANCE: Try not to miss, except for illness. Make this class a priority and your child will become comfortable enough in class to explore the material and learn it in meaningful ways.
SICK POLICY: PLEASE show consideration for other children and the teacher. Do NOT send a child to class who will obviously spread illness to others...fever, cough, runny nose or eyes...or who feels miserable. Keeping your child home under these circumstances will help class sessions to continue as planned.
PARKING: Park along WEST side of parking area without blocking southward farmer access or garage-carport parking areas of residences.
STREET SAFETY: Please be careful turning into and pulling out of our lane! Cars travel so fast on this road so please take great caution! Please drive slowly down our lane...even if you are late for class. This will keep children safe and keep road maintenance expenses to a minimum.
DRESS COMFORTABLY: This class is heavy on movement and floor activities. You may not want to send girls in dresses.
BE ON TIME: Class will start and end on time. It is VERY important the child is present for those first minutes of class. Plan to arrive a few minutes early. In winter months, arrive early enough to remove coats, etc. so class may begin on time. Please do not drop off your child more than 5 minutes before class and be on time picking him/her up. OUR TEACHERS NEED TO BE ABLE TO LEAVE ON TIME as they have other obligations to meet as well as our classes.
PARENT TIME is VERY important to your child. Your absence or late arrival does have an emotional/social impact on your child. This is his/her special time with you and should be made a priority. This is also your opportunity to know how to follow through at home.
HANDS & FEET A strict hand-washing policy is maintained to help preserve instrument life and minimize the spread of germs. Shoe removal is also requested. Keyboard students are expected to keep their nails short and will be asked to clip them if needed.
TOYS, GUM, CANDY, FOOD & BIRTHDAY TREATS: If you feel that a small child must bring a special toy or blanket, try asking him to find a "special spot" on the piano to place it until after class. Often these objects distract other children. If your child has a real need for this object, please inform the teacher so that this special need may be met. If you feel you need to bring snacks for your children who are with you in the waiting area, please have them eat them OUTSIDE. This keeps the furniture clean and in good repair. Students will be asked to get rid of gum or candy it if they have it in class. If you choose to bring birthday treats, please bring store-bought items that are individually wrapped.
VISITORS AND OTHER SIBLINGS not registered in the class should not attend unless arrangements are made with the teacher beforehand. You and your child will enjoy this special bonding time. Family Music Nights are a great time to include extended family and friends.
ALL STUDENTS in ANY CLASS or LESSON: Tuition is NEVER discounted for student absence, however, CMG offers UNLIMITED MAKE-UP CLASSES to all students enrolled! To qualify for a make-up class, you must inform the studio (by noon for classes, day before for private lessons).
GROUP CLASS STUDENTS: To register for a make-up class, simply inform the studio VIA TEXT, TWO days in advance which class your student will be attending. We will let the teacher know. You do NOT need to sign up for a make-up class in the Portal if you are making up a class, simply inform the Director which class your student will attend.
PRIVATE LESSONS: If you need to miss your Private Lesson, and you call or text the Director 24 hours in advance to inform them of your absence, and you qualify for a Make-Up Class or Make-Up Private Lesson. After we have recorded your notification and absence, you can sign up to attend a class ONE TIME, or, you can sign up for a Make-Up Private Lesson with ANY teacher under EVENTS in the Portal.
No-shows, last-minute cancellations, and multiple absences do NOT qualify for make-ups of any kind.
Plan to attend your lesson. Your teacher has set aside every other activity to be there for your lesson, and with many of our teachers, they are here in the studio only one day a week. If you are sick, please stay home.
If a teacher cancels a lesson that is not made up, your account will be discounted for that lesson.
REGISTRATION FEE: Annual Family Registration Fee is required to register for ANY CMG offering. Registration Fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and is DUE UPON REGISTRATION. This reserves your child's spot. Returning students will only receive first priority for placement in classes if their registration form and fee have been received. Registrants by phone or at the first class will be accommodated as long as slots are available. Slots are allocated on a "first come, first served" basis.
TUITION: Tuition is due by the FIRST DAY of each month. Late fees are assessed to delinquent accounts on the 2nd. If payment becomes more than 60 days delinquent, lessons will be suspended until your account is current. You are responsible for payment of all bank fees on returned checks.
Musikgarten Students ... All participants in Musikgarten and Keyboard Classes are required to purchase the MUSIKGARTEN family materials specific to that class. The same materials are used for each level each year, so once you make the investment, younger children will be able to reuse them. All materials are used on a weekly basis in class and at home. See website for materials description and cost. The studio will order the materials. PAYMENT for materials is due at the FIRST class for Semester 1, and DEC 15 for Semester 2. The use of Family Materials at home GREATLY impacts the success of the student in class and helps make your experience more enjoyable and successful, this is why they are required. Most families want to add to their music library, and you will not find better recordings of children's music!
Private Students ... An instrument at home to practice on (ask about creative ideas for drum sets); easy access to a metronome; a 3-ring binder; bag to keep books in; books and supplies as deemed necessary by the teacher.
DISCOUNTS & SCHOLARSHIPS: A 10% off tuition discount is given for all but the oldest child when the family enrolls more than one child in GROUP classes. Discounts do not apply to Private Instruction. Those bartering for tuition are excluded from all discounts. CMG does not EVER want a family to be without Music Instruction if the desire to have it is there. Scholarships are available when financial need is present and may be obtained by application, however, scholarship families are expected to help with events, barter, or do something that they CAN do to maintain the value that exists in this gift.
Referrals: Families can also receive a $10 discount on tuition for each NEW FAMILY (not per student) they bring to the program - ask the new family to list you as the referral when they register.
PRACTICE - LEARNING TO DO HARD THINGS: In order to learn to play well, students need to make progress consistently. This program will guarantee progress, IF the student is practicing regularly what they are assigned to do. ALL students struggle with the desire to practice from time to time. When you are in one of these passing phases, ASK YOUR TEACHER for ideas to help motivate your student. No one should make this journey alone, and no one will make it successfully without the help of others.
Assignments, practice, and lessons are expected to have the same priority as homework, sports, and other activities. The National Piano Foundation recommends 10 minutes of practice for each grade in school (for example, 4th grade = 40 minutes), 6 days a week. We recommend that you and your student determine a goal that works for both of you and work to fulfill that goal. A few minutes of focused and alert practice 5+ days/week yields more progress than a big block of time once or twice a week.
