Register Centenary   Folk Music & the Tin Whistle In this 4 week workshop students will learn the basics of the Irish tin whistle: scales, note names and tunes. This class is for children who are new to the tin whistle/woodwind instruments and no prior music knowledge is needed for success! Each week, children will: 1) Look at a video of a master whistle player 2) Learn/practice the scale and arpeggio in the key of D 3) Play games to become fluent in the note names 4) Sing the song to learn the melody of the tune of the week 5) Do short breath exercises to work on blowing into the whistle 6) Learn the fingering , in small tunes like Hot Cross Buns, Mary had a little lamb, and twinkle twinkle little star. 7) end with a folk song game or dance to practice aspects of basic music theory and musical expression. Waitlist Centenary   Acapella Pop Music A Capella is Italian for “in the manner of the chapel” and was originally used in liturgical singing. These days, it has become widespread throughout musical genres and is characterized by unaccompanied voices singing rich and varied harmonies. In this class we will work on active listening to develop our sensitivity to pitch, harmony and timbre as we work together in an acapella ensemble. We will explore elements of pop singing including: vocal percussion, mixed belt, breathy singing and mimicking instrumentation to create our own version of a popular song. Each week students will focus on a different genre of film, a different composer's scoring, and the relationship between the two. Minimum 6 students required for class to run. Register Centenary   Beginner Ukele Beginner Ukulele will introduce kids to the basics of playing the Ukulele. Students will learn three simple chords and basic strumming patterns.
