| Register | Workshop-14yr+:Expressive Portraits with Lydia Zoells, 6:00-7:30pm (7/8-7/15) | Let go of your perfectionism and play with paint in this two week workshop for anyone who loves color, texture, and emotion in art. We will take inspiration from artists like Alice Neel, Chaim Soutine, and Kouta Sasai as we interpret portraits with freedom and expressiveness. This is workshop has something for learners of any level of experience: we can all use some practice letting go of precision and celebrating the beauty of paint. We will discuss building a palette, loosening your brushwork, playing with texture, and finding an expressive, human quality in your work without being too attached to accuracy or likeness. All students will need to bring several photographs (portraits) that they would like to use as inspiration. The workshop will be taught in acrylic, but more experienced students are invited to bring their own oil paints instead. This workshop is for 14yrs+ and supplies are included. | Register | Workshop-14yr+:Intro to Linocut with Lydia Zoells, 6:00-8:00pm (7/29-8/5) | Linocut is a printmaking method that involves carving into a piece of linoleum to create an image that you can print over and over again. The accessibility of this cheap and simple artmaking process has made it one of most popular printmaking mediums. On day 1 of the workshop, we will discuss the history of linocut and explore source images (some will be provided, but students are more than welcome to bring their own). Then each student will begin carving a block with the image of their choice. On day 2, students will learn to ink up their blocks and print them using hand-printing methods. Students will have the option to bring in their own paper and/or fabric to print on, if they want to explore other kinds of surfaces. (Class on 7/29 will be from 6:00-8:00pm and the class on 8/5 will be from 6:00-7:00pm) This workshop is for 14yrs+ and supplies are included. Annual Registration fee does NOT apply.
