African is taught from the region of West Africa, segmenting the dancer's body into separate areas of movement, with each area being able to move to different rhythms. Students learn multiple types of call & response cues performed both verbally and physically. Our classes explore the use of weight, body isolations, and dancing with the Djembe drummers. Students also learn the origins of each social and cultural West African dance.

Djembe Drumming allows our students to explore West African rhythms beginning with exercises to increase your playing power and dexterity. Students learn to execute polyrhythmic rhythm and after 3 consecutive months, students enrolled in Djembe and play for our African class receive a discounted tuition rate.

These events include local festivals, retirement homes, and school fairs. Dancers are required to attend a PerCo placement audition in order to be considered for the team.
