Register Creative Writing - Middle School Creative Writing (12+) Students will learn about expanding their imagination to communicate their unique stories and visions. We will explore a variety of different genres, including fantasy, science fiction, comedy, and many other creative types of writing. Additionally, in this class, we will do assignments that stem from "outside the box," such as writing a story from an animal's perspective or writing a story inspired by a painting, song, or dance. In the past, we have created work based on literature, quotes, quirky characters, as well as personal stories. Register Earth Science The middle school course is designed to give students a foundation in the knowledge of Earth science. This course will give students insight into geology, the environment, and various dramatic geological events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Topics will include the composition of Earth, geologic structures and forces, the oceans on our planet, and the atmospheric forces that shape our world. Register Middle School Literature This class will provide students with a fundamental understanding of literature, essay writing, and poetry. Students will be given the tools to understand and analyze prolific texts so they can understand themes, literary devices, plot, characterization, and how to write and discuss the work in an intelligent way. Additionally, this class is meant to install passion and excitement for these great works of literature, hoping to inspire them to write, read, and continue the evolution of their literary journey. Register Physiology & Anatomy Find out about the anatomy of our body and how it works through this creative science class! Students will take a deep dive into the physiology of the body by drawing systems, organs, and tissues while learning about their anatomy and how they function. By creating real life drawings, Dr. Charlotte will guide you through the normal functions of our body and its parts. In the end, the students will have a beautiful and anatomically correct book of personal drawings of our amazing body! This class will require some work outside of class time. Homework and assignments may be given. This class will also include a project to be presented at our Open House in the end of each semester. Register Social Action - 12+ The goal of this class is to foster a desire to “be the change” to help make our community, nation and world a better place for those who come after us. Through practices of philanthropy, charity and stewardship we dedicate the semester to helping three main organizations: one for humans, one for animals and one for the environment. Students learn of other children from around the world who have made an impact for good through mindful choices, community awareness and civic action.
