Register Acting for Kids! (Ages 8-11) Mondays Acting for Kids! (for ages 7-11) is designed to help children feel comfortable speaking in front of others while learning about acting in a theatrical environment. The students will play theater games, work on improvisational skills, work on scene work, and learn how to perform a monologue. Register Hip Hop (ages 8-12) Mondays Hip Hop, for students ages 8 through 12: Hip Hop is an urban form of street dance incorporating aspects, vocabulary and movements borrowed from Jazz and Funk. Hip Hop's lexicon is constantly evolving and fluidly integrative of new concepts, cultures and trends: it is a vital, progressive and precocious genre embracing diversity and celebrating the texture of our heritage, history and future. Register Advanced Contemporary Fusion Mondays Advanced Contemporary Fusion (Intermediate II & up): This class explores the freedom and joy of movement itself. Through structured improvisation, imagery, work, and the analysis of time, space and dynamic, each student will rediscover that uninhibited inner child that used to dance around the living room. It is a perfect addition for those ballet students who are feeling rigid or stiff in their dancing. *Technique will not be the main focus of this class. Register Dance Lab: advanced, Levels 5 & above Tuesdays Dance Lab (Advanced Level): Dance Lab is a dance collective and performance research class founded by Michael Lang. Through multiple dance genres (jazz, modern, world dance and ballet), dancers will have the opportunity to contribute to movement composition and to creative concept generation for choreography. Dance Lab is open to Intermediate II level students & up, and dancers must have approval of the instructor. Register Voice Virtual Group Class Tuesdays Voice, for students ages 6 and older. In Voice, the student will learn how listen, accompany and find his or her own voice. While encouraging young performers to sing in a group atmosphere, modulation and harmony will be studied and practiced. Emphasis is on proper technique, using vocalization to develop the muscles used in singing. Songs will be learned and used in conjunction with the Musical Theatre class. Register Dance Composition Thursdays Dance Composition/Choreography (Levels 5 and above — Non Toledo Ballet students upon evaluation): Students will be introduced to the principles of composition in relation to time, space, and dynamic. Each student will build a solo or group piece with a focus on: 1) awakening one’s observations to creativity and inspiration; 2) how to use time, space and dynamics to express an idea; 3) various tools to deal with choreographer’s block; 4) appropriate music selection; and 5) how to create a collaborative environment.
