Calling all performers!! This exciting program is the perfect class for students who love to perform but may not be ready for the CSA Theatre compANY training program. In this class students will begin to explore foundational techniques and theories of theatre and will learn in all areas of the process of creating a theatrical production including blocking, music, dance, costumes and props. Students will perform a production of Annie KIDS at the James Dean Memorial Theatre at the end of the year. This class will also perform in the iPerform Show in June.

Do you want to write a novel or short story or just wish to tell a decent ghost story? Would you like to build colorful worlds that pop off the page or screen? In this course, we will be exploring creative writing through the medium of narrative storytelling. Whether you wish to write a novel, short story, novella, screenplay or stage play, an interactive game, such as a video game or tabletop game, or anything else that requires you to walk a consumer through a narrative, we will walk through the process of telling tales and building vibrant settings in which good storytelling can take place. Starting with an overview of storytelling, we will learn about plotting and structuring stories, building worlds in which they can occur, designing characters to populate those worlds and live out the story, give them interesting and realistic voices to convey their stories, and combing through the finished product to further refine the telling. This class will build on skills learned in theatre production and other advanced level theatrical production courses, including all previous areas of study, as well as Light Programming, Flight Rigging, Sound Production, Scenic Design, Props Design, and more! With an emphasis on practical application of skills through project-based learning, students will grow in confidence, and share leadership responsibilities while completely student-producing the CSA Children’s Theatre annual production. Students will meet weekly to plan and execute projects. This is a required class for all compANY Production Track and Multi-Track students. This advanced course will explore the fundamentals of scenic design, including theory of design, drafting, rendering, modeling, and practical application. Students will also learn lighting design, basics of electricity, drafting, and the practical application of programming light cues. Students will also learn basics in sound design for theatre including the processes by which sound is created, manipulated and implemented for theatrical productions, understanding basic equipment used for sound, and an understanding of using Qlab software.
