Register Batik workshop (9+yo.) - April 5 & 7 Learn the ancient tradition of Batik to design your own beautiful fabrics! Originally established in Indonesia, Batik artists would use melted wax to draw designs onto cloth. The wax would harden, then paint was applied. The color would resist the wax, leaving a print. In modern times, there are various materials that can be used instead of hot wax. We will be using Elmer’s liquid glue to pipe our designs. This project can be done on a piece of fabric, or on some clothes you’d like to refashion! Day one will include planning the design and piping the glue. The second class will be dedicated to painting after the glue has had time to dry. Supplies needed: Elmer’s white liquid glue Cotton fabric, at least 12” x 12” in size, OR an article of clothing Fabric paints OR screen printing ink Paint brushes Paper and pencil Masking tape A sturdy piece of plastic or cardboard to stretch the fabric across (large enough for the entire surface of the fabric to be stretched across) Mon, Wed 11:00am-12:30pm 9 & up Lena Harbali 04/05/2021 04/07/2021 50.00
Register Bleach dyed fabrics (12+yo.) - April 5 Did you know that you could use household bleach to design your own fabrics? There are endless ways to use bleach to create patterns, drawings, and lettering. After mastering these techniques, there will never be another excuse to throw away clothing, just give it an artsy make-over.We will create splatter patterns, stencils, free-hand drawings, and more. Supplies needed: A dark colored article of clothing (for the best results, test out how effective the bleach will be by placing a tiny drop on the inside of a seam. Leave it for a few minutes, then check. If there is a visible contrast between the original color and the bleached area, it’s a good garment to use. The key is contrast, some clothing will not bleach as much depending on how it is dyed) New pencil with eraser Spray bottle with 1/2 & 1/2 bleach and water mixture A variety of textured scraps like lace, netting, anything that has holes and could be used as stencils Paper, scissors, glue stick Household bleach(whitening) Mon 1:00pm-2:30pm 12 & up Lena Harbali 04/05/2021 04/05/2021 30.00
