Splat Lab is a highly engaging STEAM inspired experience that features 4 stations. We always have cool new projects every semester! We open the session with a welcome circle. Then youth can move in and out of stations. The “main splat” stations include fun things like: cosmic slime, quicksand, and fizz balls. “Open Splats” include activities like: connecting splats (building challenge), pipe cleaner puppets, and cup castles. This course is all about creative building, storytelling, and working together to make a TV Show! Over this hands-on course, children will build several types of puppets, and utilize film technology to bring their characters to life in a series of fun short skits. Think projects like The Dark Crystal to Sesame Street! Kidz explore different puppetry styles, creating several exciting puppets of their own, and learn to bring their character to life with basic puppet manipulation, voice acting, and interactive storytelling! Kidz will learn how important working together is when they help one another create scenes. In Bit Bits, our combination of simple electronics (like hobby motors and LED lights) along with recyclables and found objects sparks imagination and gets kids thinking like artists and engineers. Our Teaching Artists introduce a “theme of the day” and the kids use re-purposed materials and electronics to build sculptural objects based on their creative interpretation of the theme. During the first three week cycle of this course students will learn the importance of strategy and and how to plan their moves as they learn how to play Settlers of Catan Junior or Ticket To Ride: First Journey. The second three week cycle will focus on students learning classic card games such as: 31, Spoons, Slap Jack, and Cheat. The final three week cycle will focus on students having the opportunity to explore interactive games that can be played during family game nights such as: Blank Slate, Code Names, One Night a Werewolf, Yahtzee, Clue, and Scattegories. This new art curriculum will introduce students to some of the most influential art movements of the 20th and 21st centuries. We will study surrealism, abstract expressionism, pop-art, and contemporary art. Students will learn about the lives and works of some of the most famous artists of these movements, including Calder, Miró, Georgia O’Keefe, Hundertwasser, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Yayoi Kusama through a variety of hands-on art projects. They will experiment with different techniques and styles to create abstract paintings, sculptures, and surrealist collages. This curriculum will help students develop their creativity, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking skills. In this dynamic improv class, students learn the tools to think on their feet, listen and respond with wit, and be creative in the moment. We start each class with warm-ups, shaking out inhibitions, and then we move into games that foster collaboration. Finally we work toward a fully realized (and funny!) final show - no script necessary! Kids get practice being spontaneous, collaborative and hilarious while making something they can be proud of. Kids will then learn basic coding and 3D design elements as they turn their ideas into an interactive virtual reality world using both originally coded and pre-built characters.
