How often have you sat down to read a book only to be distracted by the beautiful illustrations? In this course we will read a picture book each week and take notice of the different illustrations and art techniques. Our art activities will be inspired by the exquisite illustrations found in well-known picture books. We’ll use different mediums to imitate the techniques of the illustrators. Act, Move, Create, and Play… Where will your imagination take you today? In this class, children will open our magical treasure trunk and go on an improvised theatrical adventure. Splat Lab is a highly engaging STEAM inspired experience that features 4 stations. We always have cool new projects every semester! We open the session with a welcome circle. Then youth can move in and out of stations. The “main splat” stations include fun things like: cosmic slime, quicksand, and fizz balls. “Open Splats” include activities like: connecting splats (building challenge), pipe cleaner puppets, and cup castles. We end with a closing circle to reflect on the fun and give shout-outs.

Use the power of your imagination with CinemaKidz as we explore Virtual and Augmented Reality! First, kids explore creativity, storytelling, and design using pen and paper: designing various projects by hand including a pin ball obstacle course game, a 3D world based on their favorite book, or a funny creature to interact with in a short film! Kids will then learn basic coding and 3D design elements as they turn their ideas into an interactive virtual reality world using both originally coded and pre-built characters. Over the course, participants will finish several awesome projects. The class will finish with a culminating showcase for the various stories, and each student will take home a pair of VR glasses to continue to explore their world at home with friends and family!
