JrUHSMUN introduces our youngest learners to the world of international relations in bite size pieces. They learn about countries all over the world as they explore different cultures, populations, government and policies. We focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child. They will learn the basics of research, practice public speaking and simulate UN debate and procedures by role-playing and becoming leaders in those countries.
By exploring the UN’s SDGs and Convention on the Rights of the Child students can become more informed and engaged global citizens. Our goal is to inspire them to take action, foster empathy and compassion, and to understand that they can make a difference, both in their personal lives and as future leaders in their communities.
Cost of the class includes a UHSMUN T-shirt.

In How To Build a Novel, we discuss ways to begin a regular writing practice, how to generate ideas, bring characters to life, build a plot, and create a world that feels real. Whether you’ve dabbled in writing or you’re already a prolific writer, this class can help you flesh out your ideas and grow them into your first novel. We look at NaNoWriMo, advice from famous writers, discuss the importance of reading, share our writing, and learn how to be good critique partners. This builds the foundation for the novel you will begin by the end of the semester, then continue in the spring semester (you are required to complete the fall semester curriculum in order to join us for spring semester).
